OK I hate to be that bitch but our New Year resolutions usually don't last.
The reason why, is because we set these big goals but don't put thought into how to make these new habits and lifestyle changes stick. Like, we all know there’s a 99.9% chance your juice cleanse will last maybe 3 hours ... 5 if you're lucky. You will burn yourself out and hate working out, trying to go to the gym every single day when you haven't even gone running in over 2 months! You won’t be able to stop looking at Instagram when you’re bored out of nowhere when you normally check your phone 100 times a day. There are steps that happen in order to get to these places and just because suddenly it’s 2020 and not 2019 anymore doesn’t mean some special magic superpower powder will be sprinkled onto you when you’re drunk at your NYE party and suddenly you wake up January 1st a changed human 😂 Let’s be realistic here with what we want. I AM ALL FOR CHANGE. Please please please always try to challenge yourself and become better but don’t be stupid.
If you want to be more active, start by going on a run near your home twice a week and hike with a friend on the weekend to build your way up to committing to more. You feel like shit and want to be healthier? WELL YA you’ve probably been drinking shots since 11 am for 2 weeks now, and eating fried food and chocolate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner so I’d feel like a potato too. The last thing you want to do is surprise your body with a drastic diet right off the bat! Give yourself at least 5 days to come out of all of the craziness and commit to switching out one meal for something healthier every day to kick start the process.
If you want to be more present, start by leaving your phone in your car when you go to dinner with friends, maybe delete social media off your phone after 5 or 6pm, or stop checking your email the moment you open your eyes in the morning and go sit outside for 10 minutes instead.
My point is I don’t want you to make your dreams smaller. Reach for the fucking stars but don’t skip the important steps to get there. The small little changes matter. Creating goals for yourself that are short term and definitely reachable will end up getting you to those big goals you have for 2020. You have to crawl before you can walk and walk before you can run baby. There’s a process!!! So stop trying to show off on the gram and get high on the nice comments and encouragement from strangers about all the epic things you claim you're going to do in the new year, and be fucking real with yourself and what you need to do every single day when nobody is watching to get you to where you need to be. Write it down, make a plan, and put in the work. Nothing is going to change until you do. SO LET'S GO!! 2020 is our year.
As always thank you for reading my posts! Feel free to share your thoughts with me on my most recent post on instagram HERE. xx Maika
